It’s in the numbers OBVIOUSLY

When you have pieces that sell at retail for only $ that can immediately be flipped to any secondary dealer for street market value for $$$$$$$$$$$ and get a payout IMMEDIATELY- The entity selling it for only $ gets insanely inundated with calls, emails, requests (OBVIOUSLY). So it’s in the money. People are doubling or in some cases quadrupling their investment. Happens even with Nike sneakers! Lines down the block for people trying to make a hundred or two hundred bucks!
AP only makes 40k pieces a year vs Rolex’s million plus (Rolex doesn’t reply easily either). Audemars Piguet is a pretty small company considering.
So that’s why you’re not getting a response to your email — even long time big collectors are having trouble getting pieces because they’re literally gone the second them arrive — they’ve been sold to people who have been on lists for years now. There aren’t enough to go around. The brand is trying as hard as hell to NOT get the watches into the hands of flippers. They really really try! Because flippers suck.
I suggest you go into the boutique when and if you can and don’t be annoyed because someone didn’t reply to one of five million emails from random people. Try to be understanding and feel for the people working in boutiques (who can’t afford to buy the watches and have to deal with this all day) — it’s a lot for them and they’re trying their best and they’re pretty nice people! They have families and they go home to deal with real life. Form a nice relationship and maybe you’ll be lucky enough to triple your investment in a year or two.
It’s like this with all the brands that have skyrocketed in the market value arena. When the world knows they can triple an investment — well that’s what happens. It’s a no brainer. I mean some APs sell for 150k and IF you’re able to get one (which is basically impossible) you can immediately sell it for 800k — so yeah it’s like hitting the lotto for the lucky few.
Same thing happened with me and the new PlayStation two years ago. Lines down the street. I couldn’t get a call back— Play Station was reselling for triple the value so spectators were literally lining up all night outside game stop to make $500 bucks. Sucked for the people who just wanted to play some damn video games.
Don’t take it so personally. It’s just in the numbers and how limited the pieces are.
