AP had a good run of auto-themed Offshores. Honestly, I miss those days.
Many complained "too many limited editions". I happen to like variety. Like the Survivor, that one really called to me, and I am glad they made it, even if it was excessive for others.

Never really took off. I heard it was very expensive to manufacture, maybe that drove the decision to stop using it.

He did act "legit" the whole time. I'm not sure what else was in his "collection", but he had to know his RBII was fake. 2013 or maybe it was 2012, never heard anything else about the guy.
