Eyeing the Lange 1815 Chronograph - Some Questions

Need some advice here.

I have been itching to add a new watch to my collection and has been for past several months considering various options.

My search has narrowed down to 2 watches and one of them is the Lange 1815 Chronograph in Rose Gold. It will be my first Lange if chosen. I think it's a very elegant watch, wears very comfortably, and the pushers are very nice to press. The watch has a really elegant and classic look to it, something I think I will enjoy even when I get older. And the biggest selling point of all, the movement in the case-back display is to die for. I have shared my intentions with some of my WIS friends and they have mostly expressed surprise and think that I should go for the more iconic Datograph instead. I am not that familiar with Lange and I know Datograph is more well known and popular ( ie more collectible and perhaps better resale? ).

I have compared the movement caseback display in the Lange website side by side and can't tell the difference. I understand the 1815 has no tachymeter ( which doesn't really concerns me ) and no date. Why is the Datograph costing so much more other than the use of a Platinum case? Put it the other way, the 1815 Chronograph appears to be an excellent value relative to nearly every high end manual chronograph out there including Lange's own Datograph. The Patek 5170 by comparison cost much more.

Does the Datograph comes first before the 1815 Chronograph and is it merely a transplant of the movement less the date complication to a different case? Is the 1815 Chronograph somehow considered a "Datograph Lite" among Lange collectors?

Here are some shots of the watch I tried at the local AD.

So what do you think?

Against this watch, I am also considering the Patek 5712R. Very different watch but of about the same price, after adjusting for discounts. The 5712R does not have the mesmerizing movement of the 1815 Chrono but has a more interesting case and dial and also typical PP resale value advantage, not that it matters but it is good to know.

Any advice and insights will be much appreciated.
