Dear fellow WIS, As witnessed by the topic matter, please find below (somewhat) recent movement shots I took of my Lange 1815 chronograph (not in my possession anymore BTW) and my Patek 5270G, respectively. Keen to hear your opinions on which movement you...  

I think the Lange looks more pleasing, more artfully decorated and the architecture is more appealing and pleasing to admire. The Patek looks more industrial by comparison. Finishing certainly looks to be more detailed in the Lange but as you mentioned, t... 

As much as I love ALS, being part of Richemont knocks it down a notch in my book. Both brands make beautiful watches (front and back). But Patek is Patek for a reason.

When you move up to the 5370 and beyond, that is quite a step upwards in terms of finishing and there the double assembly also kicks in. Is this correct ? I though the 5370 was based on the same movement as the 5270 (and 5170), but based on the below pict...  

I've compared them in real life and Lange was much much better. I am a proud owner of Dato and, at some stage, was considering buying this Patek too. But after comparing them in my own hands my interest in Patek evaporated completely...

But the back of one was much nicer than the other.

None of the watches we all obsess over would make the cut. IMHO you have to look at the whole package. And I say this acknowledging that ALS has some of the nicest movement decoration out there.

Without question. You only have to observe the watchmakers going about their work to see the attention to detail and the superiority of their work. Not to mention the signed balance cock to give each watch a sense of individuality.

Reminds me of the US Olympic basketball team years ago. They dominated everything. Then the world started catching up. Patek was king. Then the world started catching up. And maybe exceeding their excellence.

That being said... I do like the Patek 5270 very much - it's a well executed timepiece. And I do like the Lange 1815 Chronograph very much as well.

I agree with you both are nice watch. Perhaps lately PP has been more innovative yet I believe any ALS is always designed ready to divulge 😉.

But it's very decorated, it's sort of a christmas tree while the Patek is more sober. Objectively, the Lange, subjectively, it's a matter of taste.

However, I would say under a loupe, that the finishing on my 5370 is superior to my Dato - possibly not a surprise given the price points and that the 5370 is double assembled by one watchmaker in the high grand comps department (Dato is of course also do...
