As gold is a dense metal, a basic polish won't remove significant amount of gold atoms, and thus you would not hardly even notice the difference unless you used an uber precise scale to measure the watch before and after polishing.
Then again you could always revert to Platinum, which is a metal whose physical characteristic includes the fact that even polishing would hardly remove any atoms, it just pushes the atoms that we "brushed aside" back to the spot where they used to belong.
That is why i love Platinum so much.
And yes, i would love to have my case looking new each time i send it back for servicing, therefore the highly polished look is much desired!
