I appreciate the welcome.  Yes, I've spoken to jewelers and they all say that working with platinum is difficult as it is such a hard metal, particularly compared to the softness of gold.

I guess I'm curious as to the attraction to platinum though. If you have to tell people its not stainless steel or its not white gold, is it worth the huge price bump? I understand its a matter of preference and do not mean to put down anyone lucky enough to afford platinum, it's just my ignorance that guides the question. One huge benefit, if true, would be that because platinum is a harder metal the watch will be able to sustain a bump that a similar bump on a gold watch would leave an unsightly blemish. Also, it would never need replating like white gold will need over time.

Am I on the right track?
