From my personal experience and specific for my wrist, there are 2 aspects that made the Datograph top heavy compared to the similar sized 5970
1.) The caseback makes the watch sits higher on the wrist (hence your observation on the lugs being raised higher than 5970)
2.) The actual physical weight of the watch, which is about 10-15% heavier compared to 5970 with the same material
A combination of this, I feel that Datograph has higher center of gravity when worn
The concave bezel of 5970, makes it visually a bit smaller too.
However, due to the weight, if you don't wear the watch loose OR right on your bone on your wrist, it will sinks a bit into your skin.
It'll lose a bit of its top heaviness.
Balancing this, you can war with bracelet as previously mentioned or with a platinum deployant buckle.
Lange platinum deployant buckle is hefty and does a good job balancing the watch.
