One of the things I’ve learned in this hobby is that given enough time, things tend to be cyclical.
In 2012, Panerai was still hot, and one of the most popular Pams at that time was the 372, which was launched in 2011.
Wondering what the fuss was all about back then, and seeing that the 372 had all the classic design cues of the 127, I managed to score one at a fair price, but my then girlfriend (now wife) hated it, saying it was too big and too flashy, and after a few months I sold it to fund a grail at that time; a birthyear 16750 Pepsi GMT (which was still relatively affordable back then.)
Fast forward almost a decade later, and Panerais were on the wane. While I was walking around in Osaka and i saw a used 372 in a used watch shop; that no one was paying attention to at all.
And I’ve put it back on my regular rotation again. Since you rarely see Pams being worn regularly nowadays, in favor of 40mm and below watches, having a massive 47mm watch on your wrist is actually refreshing.
It’s funny how losing something makes you appreciate the thing more when you get it back. Have a great week purists.
