In praise of Tungsten Carbide - 22 years on...

Sep 30, 2020,15:30 PM

I have been wearing this RADO in rotation, on and off, for 22 years.  I have not been careful with it, but It hasn't been treated as a beater either.

At my desk today, the mirror polish of the clasp was still blinding.  On most of our watches, this part of the bracelet takes a real beating over time.

See for yourself.  It's hard to believe.

All the best...  HEO

Is it as brittle as ceramic?

Thank you Sire. Enjoy dinner please. [nt]

I think IT IS ceramic! Rado knows very well how to work ceramics and many of its watches are ceramic but with a metallic tone, like tungsten. Best regards. René

Great! 👍🏼 [nt]

No Sir... It is not ceramic. RADO has and does make ceramic, but not in this reference.

T-C will fracture, as a ceramic does. I don't think it will break quite as easily, but I am not an engineer. For Ted... more pics... ...

Lovely, I can’t believe something would be super shiny as that

And it's easy to see why! Please post a photo of the full watch, too. Best, Tim

Tungsten Carbide is amazing in that respect.

It also has a darkness to it, which I really like.

Hi Emil... Very nice! It looks new.

I have an Anatom Jubile similar to that as well. A great, thin comfortable watch. And oh yes... T-C is very heavy.
