3940
Dec 21, 2018,23:34 PM
Yes, that’s me. It is a 3940 (not a 5140) but the dial is a unique mixture of 3940 and 5140 elements. The movement bears the Geneva (not PP) seal, reflecting that these pieces were “resurrected” for the Saatchi exhibition. I love it, and if there’s one out there for sale, it isn’t mine !!!

Should I conclude the year with a nice piece ?

But currently I’m torn between a few patek watches. Any insights from fellow Purists is more then welcome. I must admit that I’m very charmed by this 3971J and its 36mm vintage size. The same for the 3940 and its salmon dial. The 5207P seems to be the obv...

I know it's not the powerhouse of this group, but I've always found this reference endlessly charming.
Personally I would go with

Either the salmon 3940 if the size wears well on the wrist, alternatively the 5970R... very different from each other so comes down to what fits the best in the box.... all amazing pieces so tough to go wrong...
Another vote for the 3940 salmon dial

Next to the 3970 it looks most classic Patek. 5970 and 5270 are very, very nice but more modern Pateks.
3940 is awesome

Personally I wouldn't choose salmon, I would go silver, but if you like salmon that's the one!

I'd go for the 5270 hands down. I don't see the porthole problem at all. ...

3971 Love the details. Good luck!

Out of the four, I like the 5970R mainly because of the case size and shape. I like the versatility of the watch, it wears well with jeans or suit..

Maltie the image that you are showing as a 3940 is actually a 5140, same movement with a larger case so the dates 5 and 27 are smaller. A beautiful watch indeed and a great choice!
Your photo is a 5140
By: MC : December 21st, 2018-04:42
Suggest you ask seller for a photo of Patek cert to be sure. The 5140 is only 1mm larger and also has a convex bezel instead of the concave bezel of the 3940.
That’s why I thought it was a 5140
By: MC : December 21st, 2018-12:52
The normal 3940 does not have this issue. If you ask the dealer if the bezel is is convex or concave that will be another clue. Also ask if the case is 36mm or 37mm. The cert says it is a 3940, but if it has the characteristics of the 5140 then it is an a...
It's not an anomaly

All 175 year jubilee 3940G are like this. But is it really a 3940 when it is a re edition with a different dial than the original? I think it's a little strange to be honest. Thomas

For Saatchi in London, 36mm case, concave bezel, modified 5140 dial to fit smaller case, less than 20 made, two backs, deployant buckle, and winding box. Does it get more special than that?
I have seen the 3940 salmon dial

worn by one of the five lucky owners (a fellow purist actually) and although I am not normally partial to the 3940, this version looked stunning. I know one for sale in the UK so I assume that is the one you are targetting. The price has been terribly inf...

This is the first time I have heard anyone refer to the 5970 as a hamburger. 3970.....yes. But first time I heard anyone describe the 5970 like that.
Thanks Keks for...
