. . . so starting another thread won't be necessary.  (My apologies if I misunderstood you, Weems.)

My affection for the Stones should be the stuff of legend by now, but it was Charlie . . .

. . . I adored.  It simply won't be the same without him.

Stoically,

Sadly, it was announced today that Charlie has passed away. My thoughts are with his family and his fellow Rolling Stones band members at this time. Rest in peace Charlie. ...

How awful..

To me it was Charlie and Bonham…and then every other drummer in the world. We have lost a treasure and a great man.

Charlie was to drumming as . . .

. . . Fred Astaire was to dancing. Elegantly light, and knew when to hold back. My idol. Art ...

Neither Richards nor Woods are credited . . .

. . . on Heaven. Bill Wyman played not only bass, but also electric guitar and synthesizer. Charlie handled drums. Mick on acoustic. Not your usual line-up . . .

There are very few people I admire as deeply as Charlie. Vin Scully, the retired sportscaster, . . .

. . . Mark Donohue, the racing driver, and Efren Reyes, pool player. All shared the same characteristic: they were peerless at their profession but never showed off.

Sad news

Fun Art. But we must go on without Charlie. Let’s play Stones songs, to console. My favorite song is, waiting on a friend.

My personal thoughts also go to....

the family and the loved ones, who will have a big "hole" to fill. R.I.P, Charlie :-(

Charlie Watts was "a jazz aficionado,"

"...he fell in love with the drums after listening to Chico Hamilton play brushes on Walking Shoes [see attached video]; and was only introduced to the dark arts of rock 'n' roll by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards in the early 1960s." - source BBC

Got to hear him play with his jazz bandmates at the Playboy Jazz Festival . . .

. . . in '87. Charlie closed out Saturday night with his Orchestra. Unfortunately there's no video to be found of his set, but here's Nancy Wilson . . . . . . from much earlier in the day. And yes, that's Bill Cosby MC'ing the event.

Don't tell me that's a copy . . .
