Servicing of a Chronograph Module.

Nov 10, 2013,19:52 PM

To my knowledge there are no available parts supplied for these modules so taking one apart does have its risks. Taking your time to focus is important, especially working on movements and modules were parts are strictly limited.

So here is a look at a module manufactured by Dupois Depraz.

Care should be taken not to DAMAGE the chronograph cannon pinion when separating.  It is also IMPORTANT  to have the chronograph mechanism in the ON / or RUNNING position for disassembly and assembling.

Disassembly begins after making sure the chronograph is engaged. Then remove the Chronograph mechanism cover.

The minute counter driving wheel friction spring, Chronograph second wheel, and Hammer operating lever are next to remove.

Now to clean everything.

After reassembling and oiling the module it may be necessary to adjust the hammer.

If there is too, much play with respect to heart-piece of minute counter wheel, you can open the flexible hammer arm.

I love these posts. Not because I intend to venture into watch repair/servicing myself but I simply find it amazing to have these peeks into the inner wonders of our watches. Keep it up :) Nikolaj

Those modules are very tricky and when Omega started using those (Speedmaster Reduced) the maintenance was to replace the module. My watchmaker's team do exactly what you did and they can repair those modules without any major problem. Congratulations, Ni...

I have one or two watches with the DD module that already went for maintenance (by time, not because they were with issues) and I had no issues with watches with those modules. My watchmaker (ex Omega, 20+ years of experience) states that the problem with...

I am curious how many different oils are used in the movement?

4 Different lubricants are used.

... is this module set atop a 2892? Looking at the "date funnel", I assume it is the module that was replaced by the big date version rather soon (with flyback, and sometimes even with annual calendar). Regards, Marcus

Thank you Marcus, glad you enjoyed....

These modules can be used on many different calibers including ETA 2892. And used by many different manufactures, I have seen them in Tag Heuer, Omega, and Audemars Piguet. To my knowledge these are manufactured with a variety of complications. This one h...
