You are correct about Zantke

Zantke's list of Frodsham numbers only begins with 1878. The more recent book by Paul Audemars, The Story of Louis Audemars & Cie, contains additional ledgers and serial numbers that weren't available to Zantke when he published in 2003. For the record, here is one of two entries for this watch in Paul's book:
Also very interesting was the entry from 1880 when the piece was returned for repairs to the repetition mechanism and change of dial. I've been advised that scribbled next to the repair cost is "Frod" for Frodsham:
Research the most entertaining aspect of collecting watches. With this piece, I also connected with Richard Stenning, the current archivist at Frodsham. Their records prior to 1878 were destroyed by fire some time ago, which explains Zantke's data. Although Stenning was familiar with the watch, because of its age I was unable to obtain their certificate of origin. Cheers,
