I think if you do some research on the net, you will find that a large percentage of people that really know watches will tell you the Chronometer Cert and Geneve Seal are nice but today they are largely marketing tools. Even a less refined watch like the 114270 Rolex Explorer is a chronometer but it is not a better or worse time keeper than the Rolex Submariner (non-Date) which used the same movement but its not a chronometer. In addition, although I'm hardly an expert on the finish of movments, but I would venture to say there are many movements that are finished as finely if not better than some watches with the Geneve Seal. In fact, I know several individuals who believe that the quality of the finish on a Lange exceeds that found on most Pateks.
I think you really have to see the watches in person and try them on. There is no substitute for putting a watch on your wrist and seeing how you feel about it.
I personally, find most Pateks a bit stodgy so Geneve Seal or not I have difficulty getting excited about much of their current line up.
In terms of the VC Chronometer Royal, its a beautiful watch, but I find it a bit pricey for a time only watch, no matter how nicely its finished or the porcelain dial. If you love it when you see it, then get it. There is nothing worse, or more expensive than settling for your second choice even if its a good watch you will not be satisfied and you will long for your first choice. That being said, I love the previous generation of Chronometer Royals, the only issue I have is it was never issued in rose gold which I think would have made that my perfect round VC dress watch.
With regard to the Richard Lange, its one of my favorite time only watches. Its so clean and strong in terms of case design and beauty. I don't usually think Langes are beautiful (although I love the Lange 1 & Lange 1 Moonphase), but the Richard Lange is IMHO one of the nicest watches they have ever made. The finish on Lange movements is impeccable. Its a watch I would choose easily over most Pateks, and probably over a 1907 Chronometer Royal also. Its a very different watch, the 1907 looks more vintage and its design more romatic, the RL is strong, modern, clean, a model of German engineering and design.
By the way to the owner who posted a picture of the plat. R.Lange...thats a real beauty. Enjoy it in good health.
Anyway, let us know what you decide.
Best regards,
