Need your help again

May 21, 2019,09:15 AM

My dear friends,

Again I turn to you for some feedback on my next potential VC acquisition.

Somehow I’ve fallen in love with the current Traditionnelle Perpetual Calendar Chrono.

When we were at the VC event I matched it against the one and boy piece regulator in white gold but still the Traditionnelle won (emotionally).

There are three thing that’s holding me back

1) earlier I learned via this community that this model will be discontinued

2) The movement is in house updated but it’s not a real in house movement ( I still can’t figure out of that’s a pro or con)

3) Value: for the same money I can buy a PP perpetual calendar plus a VC traditionelle dress watch and still have some pocket change left

But what’s pushing me:

1) every time I try it on it shouts: yes my watch

2) the moon face has actual expressions

3) in platinum it’s so gorgeous

Not sure what the expression “but doesn’t hold water etc” means?

Thanks

Will read the review The rose gold one is already super but the platinum one beats everything

I understand your conundrum.

I've tried it on and it's truly spectacular. The only reason I don't own it is the pushers. Very AP ROO-like and I can't compromise on it. But that's just me. Good luck with your decision.

I can see your point on the Malte but somehow the combination of size and shape don’t sit well on my wrist

Hi Jurry, Usually I don't give any answers of such discussions within high observation and input of the influencer sermonizers, but it is needed to be said, sometimes horological nonsense seem to be king. I observe it looks like nobody seem to be able to ...

Your initial words

 By: anon438 : May 24th, 2019-12:50
1) earlier I learned via this community that this model will be discontinued It means limitation of the watches available, limitation of series run would be a Pro not a Con argument for me as an aficionado. 2) The movement is in house updated but it’s not...

Your views and insights are highly appreciated and very useful thanks for that

Movement size is a huge issue...

 By: mdg : May 25th, 2019-16:54
Especially in a watch approximately 40mm wide. It is clear that on the VC the sub-dials are pushed to the center because of the small movement. Add to this Patek’s first in-house chrono and it is tough to turn down if one has the resources. I don’t, but i...

A Hughe Issue of Two Milimeters?

 By: anon438 : May 25th, 2019-22:12
Stay with the facts: The distance between the sub-dials is a measured difference of about two mm. The difference in movement diameter seem to be, at least partly out of the book of the PP fairy tales, or lets say founded in the PP communication strategy. ...

Is there a way to block this poster?

Maybe it’s a language issue but it seems that he doesn’t like my opinions on dial aesthetics (based on nearly forty years experience as a graphic designer, typographer, and art director). My opinion may be wrong or may differ from his, but the comments co...

You don't like others to have a different view

 By: anon438 : May 27th, 2019-11:00
And you don't have the arguments. What you talking about is a visual effect, based on the 2 mm larger case and the 2 mm narrow distance, the different form and appearance of the bezel, of the the subdial printing and so on. You are not the only one who co...

I welcome disagreement but not...

Thanks for your Sharp observations and sharing your knowledge with me. Slowly but surely I’m coming to a conclusion of how I want to complete my collection. In August I’m turning 30 (with 30 years experience that totals 60 I’m afraid) and my lovely wife i...

Think of your watches as a mere lifestyle enhacement, a daily delight

 By: anon438 : May 25th, 2019-09:15
That's what aficionados tend to do.

I do

 By: Jurry : May 25th, 2019-09:31
That my friend is exactly what I do. Every piece we ever bought was purchased to celebrate something and hence we have never sold a single piece Secondly every piece we have is a piece we actually wear. We don’t lock them in a safe and we don’t buy for fu...

I do aslo wear them all, even those from the 1930's - no problem

 By: anon438 : May 25th, 2019-10:38
I buy everything I like, but I've a difficult, and sometimes somewhat expensive taste, hehe. But I'm not a collector, for me it is a daily delight, just as my daily wardrobe, like a daily mood enhancer - without drugs. I intend to sell everything as a com...

Like you

In like you I’m wearing them and all of them get wrist time

And about your idea with VC Cabinotiers

 By: anon438 : May 25th, 2019-11:00
Do you have something special in mind? A certain idea? Usually I would only go there, to let them do something very personal for me or maybe for my next. A real One Of, with nothing close to it. And certainly something very Vacheron, with significant styl...

Yes

 By: Jurry : May 26th, 2019-00:10
Yes i do have something special in mind. Instead of (or in addition to) a moon phase I’d like a “sun face” with a counter that adds one year every day at our wedding day It may sound simple for me it’s special

Phantastic Idea - This is an Expression of True Love

 By: anon438 : May 26th, 2019-01:14
That's in deed an exceptional idea. Maybe an alternative display for showing up something special? And a counter? I guess it should be possible to realize. It will be 'The Jurry & ... Anniversary Watch', do something significant, it will stay long lon...

IT Goes further

 By: Jurry : May 26th, 2019-07:53
My idea goes further than that I want a counter so that 100 years from now when that counter hits 135 and my late late grandson will ask what’s that for, the answer will be that his great great grand parents got married 135 years ago In order to ensure th...

Hi Jurry

 By: anon438 : May 27th, 2019-00:52
That would need in the base a perpetual calendar - Quantieme Perpetuel -, you should think about how much calendar functionality you would like to have displayed. Take some time to think about the calendars in general. Already thoughts about manual vs aut...

Excellent

 By: Jurry : May 27th, 2019-01:17
Excellent suggestions. A QP as base is a given but that’s as far as I got sofar I’m not very familiar with the concept of grand sonnerie Don’t know exactly what it does or how it would fit the concept. If you could enlighten me would be great

Quantieme Perpetuel Grande Sonnerie

 By: anon438 : May 27th, 2019-02:59
The Grande Sonnerie (full strike) would be: Striking the hours on the hour, and strikes the hours and the quarters on the quarter hours, both en passant, but for you - striking on event - and certainly not the hours and quarters. Maybe done by carillon (c...

Thanks

Thanks for your valuable background information. And this is not a spur of the moment project, but something I’ve been think8ng about for a long time already. Slowly but surely what started as a flash idea is growing into a concept. Slowly I’m reaching th...

To Have Some Control

 By: anon438 : May 31st, 2019-02:00
Hi Jurry, to have some control about the costs, you should root your ideas strictly on something already existing to limit the additional effort. The individualisation of the dial would be probably - depending on imagination - more easy than to apply an a...

The Vacheron Constantin Maitre Cabinotier Perpetual Calendar Regulator

 By: anon438 : May 31st, 2019-07:31
Would you simply skip the Lune? Or would you rather add the Soleil? Some think the regulator dial is rather difficult to read.

Idea

 By: Jurry : May 31st, 2019-09:59
My idea is to replace the date ring with a solar ring and have the date indicator replaced by a counter Imagine the moon face turning in the inner circle and around it the sun which makes full circle in one year No idea if that’s possible but that’s what ...

This Traditionelle has tons of charm.

 By: mrds : May 31st, 2019-06:46
Especially the moon faces.... My only concern is the case size which I‘d prefer at 41-42 mm, and in connection, the subdials that are (too?) close to the center. I don’t think these issues are severe, it’s just a matter of taste. Still remember that day w...

appreciate your concerns

If this piece really sings to you and you do not believe you will tire or it over time.. Get it. I think it is a beautiful watch but it would not be my first choice but I can see how others might really love it. So if this is a watch you plan to keep and ...
