Excellent review, Bill

I cannot argue with your statement: "For those looking for a classic three hand dress watch, I can’t imagine a better choice than the Patrimony Traditionnelle."  The movment in the 82172, shared with the American 1921, has grown on me.  I was not in love with it at first glance.  But it really is a well done in-house movement, and I particularly like the solution of a large barrl v. a double barrel for the nice long power reserve. That seems much more elegant to me. 

The macro shots of the details of the dial and the case really show of some details that I had not noticed before -- the duaphine hands both polished and frosted, the faceted indices, and the really lovely shape of the lugs. The dial really does have a lot of depth to it. 

My heart remains true to the Patrimony Contemporaine as the ultimate dress watch in current production, but it is so thoughtful of VC to offer us such a remarkable alternative.
