Calibre 1400 most historic movement of VC history IMHO
LOL, notice I said VC...but I'll support this bold statement for these reasons: when Richemont took over the brand in 1996, it had been almost sixty years since V&C made their own calibres. CEO Juan Carlos Torres had openly stated the mission was to transition to completely in-house manufacture and, true to his word, the Calibre 1400 9-ligne manual movement with Poincon de Geneve was introduced in 2002. I think it was also significant that a 9-ligne movement was chosen as the flag-bearer for it invited comparisons with the iconic calibre 1003. In this regard, we are aware of the opinions of master watchmaker Philippe Dufour, who described it as perhaps the best movement in series production (that was in 2007). So with this calibre, VC successfully launched a transformation that reinforced, even re-established, their position at the top!
You said it, Bill!

VC nailed it! I feel this is particularly so with the Aronde, but that is merely a matter of personal taste. The cases and dials on both of these are simply gorgeous. These two photos, unlike yours, came out particularly bad: But, oh, how I love the Arond...
LOL, nice try Robert

Hee hee, can't say you don't want to re-hash the debate then state your position ;-) Really, there is no debate. The original was a different watch in a different time. Comparing them is only an exercise to keep us amused, no criticism of the current mode...
What a beauty, Joseph!

Congratulations on adding this one to your amazing collection. The Aronde has really grown on me. I hope to see yours one day soon. Our own moderator first turned me on to the charms of the cal. 1400, and I am a fan. I am so glad to have that caliber in m...
As always...

...tick-talk, you bring intelligence and historical perspective to the discussion. I had not thought about the cal. 1400 in this way before, and your sharp insight makes me appreciate the 1400 even more. Thank you! respo
