And now for something completely different!
Here is something one doesn’t see very often.
It’s a letter from 1846 from Bologna, Italy to Vacheron-Constantin in Geneva.
I came across it at the Italian eBay site while on a bit of a wild goose chase for something else.
The problem as you can see is that the script is quite florid making it
difficult to read. In addition some letters are shaped in an unfamiliar
manner (to me) in this very cursive, highly decorative writing.
Nevertheless, I have included some text that I was able to decipher. Translation is not a problem, reading it is.
It deals with some business transactions, and an upcoming meeting at a
trade fair in Geneva as well as a payment and some business of one of
the author’s cousins.
It’s an interesting snippet of history.
I will leave it to others to see if they can decipher the letter more thoroughly.

Here is what I have been able to discern:Bologna le 25 Juillet 1846Messieurs Vacheron & Constantin a GeneveJe vous confirme ma letter du 10 (…) Par (…) je n’y (donne croit ??) de (… 114) qui M. I wonder if longstanding retailers of Vacheron Constantin have archived all their correspondence with the firm in any organized way. It would make for an interesting study. Bill
