Thanks for all of you for your responses. I think the watch needs desperately a re-lubrication.

My understanding is the watch is from early 2000. Probably 2002? The watch looks like new but probably it has never been serviced or re-lubricated. I assume I should take it to be checked.
Does any of you have idea how much VC or corresponding AD would charge for the cleaning/re-lubrication in case everything else is ok? Do you think it has to be VC or AD to make the work or could the work be done by a generic watchmaker?
Thanks

Vacheron Asymmetric 1972 winding

Hi all I just received my Vacheron Constantin Asymmetric 1972 watch with ref. 37010. I bought it pre-owned. I’m wondering how to wind the watch as the crown is almost completely inside the watch? I can only glide the crown from a tiny angle. When I do so,...

That kind of resistance on a watch of this quality suggests it may need a service

In any case, you’d wind it more with the finger touching the bottom of the crown (and rolling the bottom of the crown towards you) than your thumb on top of the crown.

Thanks j.jota - I think I now managed to wind it full. At least it does not move any more and it has now run for an hour.

This is the strangest winding experience to date! It feels like the crown does not wind at all as it return back when I release my finger. However, it obviously made some winding…

its only a 6.75 ''' diameter of 15.70mm-so the barrel is very small-hence a thin small spring and 40 hr power reserve-FULLY WOUND. unscrew the case back and look at the winding motion for any visable problems and try 'thumb winding' .

Congratulations on getting this highly revered piece.

As with the winding am not sure, but the bounce back sounds similar to caliber 4400 in the traditionelle and 1921

Great ! Have a good weekend.

The partially hooded crown was a design trade-off, looks good but difficult to live with. Can be frustrating but a serviced movement should optimize the ease of winding. Perhaps a chore I share with others, my spouse brings her manual watches to me to win...
