The metal wire running from left to right shows the area of the earth in daylight. Sun is at 12.

The wire bends down as the angle of the earth changes and the North Pole moves into permanent light. At each equinox the wire will be straight. When the wire is deflected upwards it shows the North Pole is in permanent darkness. The Cloisonné dial rotates every 24 hours and shows GMT time at 12 - it also shows the area of the earth having sunrise on the right hand side as it rotates anti-clockwise past the wire and the sunset is shown on the left. The moon, sun and earth are shown all in their actual positions so at any time you can see the relative position of each.

This shot shows the wire bent up with the North Pole in permanent darkness - mid January. It also shows the moon at 6 o’clock meaning a full moon but also shows the dragon hand at 6 o’clock- lunar eclipse in progress.👍

this piece still amazes me. Ludwig Oechslin is a horologic mastermind! Its my favorite piece in the trilogy set but the other two are also very special watches.
