Poor alignment of date disk in cal. UN-32

Mar 31, 2011,09:51 AM

I recently bought a UN GMT Perpetual which had been freshly serviced at Le Locle. Needless to say that the watch is in a very nice condition.

However, now as I wear the watch for some time, I'm more and more bothered by the imperfect alignment of the inner date disk (see attached pic).

Is this a known "issue" for UN perpetuals or would you expect in each case a better alignment of the date disk?

I'm not sure, whether I should contact the UN service and ask them to have the alignment adjusted. On the one hand I avoid to have my watches opened unnecessarily (I could have the alignment fixed during the next service in 4 or 5 years), on the other hand I suspect that I won't be able to ignore this litte issue. Also I'm not sure whether my personal quality standard is maybe a little bit too high?

What do you think - contact UN and ask for fixing or wait until next regular service?

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Juergen

It would most definitely bother me. I would not hesitate to send it back. What good is having a highly valued timepiece if the only thing you are going to focus on every time you look at it is the poorly aligned date wheel. It would be much better to spen...

irony aside, it is really true: The big advantage and most unique feature of UN's big date - and perpetual mechanism -, that it can be set both forward AND backward, also is responsible for an increased chance of misalignment in the indications. All conve...

Marcus, thank you for your detailed answer. I'm aware that I cannot expect a "perfect" alignment of the calendar indications. However, I also own a simple GMT +/- and the alignment of the this big date indication is much better than for my perpetual. The ...

I had the same problem with the San Marco GMT and the GMT Perpetual, the latter was serviced in Weil am Rhein and it was a complete disaster. The perpetual was finally fixed in Le Locle, the San Marco GMT was serviced in Le Locle and looked awry after I c...
