When I first saw the UN Moonstruck about ten years ago, it was love at first sight.
I graduated from a Rolex GMT to a UN Blue Surf then to the UN Marine Perpetual. The quintessential perpetual calendar movement whimsically applied to a diving watch.
The Ludwig Oechslin perpetual mechanism, the most elegant and uniquely simple design that reflects a design philosophy rooted in the utmost love and understanding watches.
Then came the Trilogy. Three pieces of watchmaking that only can be described by superlatives. Unfortunately the information density of the dials is just way too much for my eyes.
I appreciate the genius behind these time pieces, but their complexity prevents them to be a daily wearer, where basic watch information has to be readily apparent and for me a watch has to be as such.
I consider the Moonstruck as the fourth piece of the Trilogy set, and in my opinion the most refined. It conveys all the information in a basic and elegant way. It is an astronomy watch plus a GMT travel watch, though mostly for the geography savvy. It has this beautiful enamel hand painted azimuthal equidistant representation of the globe surrounded by the two MOP bezel that look almost like the blue sky when you look up to the heaven, the very accurate and precise moon representation and the golden sun. I realize that this timepiece is not for everyones taste, but for me it is one of the ultimate watches I had to have.
