"Many dreams come true, and some have silver linings. I live for my dream, and a pocketful of gold." -- from the song "Over the Hills and Far Away" by Led Zeppelin. I had these lyrics inscribed on a set of rings I had made. The lyrics show up in other places in my life as well.
The above are my favorite lyrics of all time. For me, the best songs are either poetry or stories. U2 have some very poetic lyrics.
Songs that I love for their lyrics, and the artists who performed them:
"Home" by Sheryl Crow
"Tangled Up In Blue" by Bob Dylan (one of the greatest lyricists)
"Ode To Billy Joe" by Bobbie Gentry
"Red Dirt Girl" by Emmylou Harris
"Can't Let Go" by Lucinda Williams
"Asking For Flowers" by Kathleen Edwards
I'll stop now, but could probably go on, and on.
I'm the type of person who always listens to the lyrics of a song. I'm not afraid to admit that I will sometimes get choked up singing along to a song in the car or at home because I'm so moved by the lyrics.
Cheers,
Daos
