Well, I lost both my 8-ball games in Wednesday's tournament . . .

. . . and the second loss was a stunner. Bruce had five balls left on the table after I pocketed my last solid, but snookered myself on the 8. Made a kick-shot attempt into a side pocket which was frighteningly close to dropping in, missing by an inch.
Bruce then sank his five stripes in rapid order, and set up for an easy shot on the 8 as it was literally two inches from the side pocket.
It doesn't matter if you make 'em all in if you can't position yourself on the 8.

. . . the other way around. Bruce is a damn fine shooter. Practices caroms, so he's a natural at 3-ball. Not much for banking or kicking, but a deft touch for cut shots. ...
