Wedding anniversary at the Lago di Como (with lots of pictures)

One month ago, my wife and I celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary and I wanted to make her a surprise.

My first idea was to go to Normandie to spend time chilling on the beach and eat sea-food. But we had already done that and I wanted something more exotic.

Each time that amanico and foversta write subjects about Italy (Roma, Stresa, Lago di Garda, etc.) it’s a real pleasure to read them and it gave me some ideas…

A quick search on Google Maps to estimate the trip duration by car and on TripAdvisor to find some lovely places and my choice was made.

Three weeks later, it was the day of the departure.

Too early for a saturday morning, we woke up and took the road to Lake Como.

Most part of the journey takes place in Switzerland but unfortunately we did not have time to stop. At least I know the road to Basel for the next BaselWorld.

The road was long and boring on the Switzerland highway but it was by far the most practical way for us to go to Italy.

Our first destination, Menaggio, is close.

After a last gasp of the GPS we arrived at the Hotel Royal, on the heights of Menaggio, with a beautiful view of the mountains and the lake.

It was time to take some rest by the pool.

Before dinner, we had time to wander in Menaggio and to appreciate quietness and serenity from this beautiful village…

… and admire cars from different kind.

Some luxurious: Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster.

Other most suited to the width of the road: Fiat 500.

A thought for amanico and his rooftop shots smile

We ate at the restaurant of Hotel Royal a delicious plate of pasta with mushrooms accompanied with a glass of italian red wine (which I don’t remember the name).

After a last cup of coffee it was time to spend a good night. But the best is yet to come…

Sunday morning, we walked to the lake.

If you want to visit other cities around the lake, you can take water taxi.

Yes, we were in Italy wink

Small streets to do shopping…

… lovely place where we lunched…

… and italian clichés.

Heaven is almost here! Almost… smile

After Menaggio we drove to Tremezzo where I reserved a suite in the Grand Hotel.

Apparently we arrived too early so we used this free time to visit the Villa Carlotta.

Romeo & Julietta

The villa has a nice view on Bellagio and the Hotel Serbelloni.

The garden is amazing and we just seen a small piece of it!

At this time, we were ready for serious business biggrin

After a facility tour with our private concierge, he introduced us our suite at the fifth and last floor of the hotel.

Some kind attentions waited us: chocolates on the bed…

… and champagne and strawberries on the desk.

According to our concierge, the terrace is the best part of the suite.

You see what he means.

In one word, our suite was absolutely fantastic, as the welcome.

Before dinner, we ordered mojitos at the beach club. Yes this is a swimming pool which floats on the lake…

The evening continued with a delicious meal with risotto, tiramisu and champagne on the terrace of the hotel, lit by candlelight, overlooking the lake and the lights of Bellagio. Magic!

Sweet dreams.

Needless to say our last revival in Tremezzo went smoothly.

A dip in the hot tub before breakfast.

The best way to work up an appetite.

One more step to heaven with a Hoyo des Dieux.

Unfortunately after this nice morning we had to go home.

One more sight to this landscape that will remain long in our memories with his fifty shades of blue.

To conclude, I received this watch five years ago as an engagement gift. It was a real pleasure to wear it during this weekend.

And five year ago this woman with stars in her eyes (hidden behind her sunglasses) still supports me and loves me. She well deserved this weekend in Italy and this dolce vita.

Again, special thanks to amanico and foversta.

I hope you enjoyed this trip.
