Short Order...

L.A. Farmer's Market 3rd & Fairfax....Short
Order.
Lots of fgourmet burger
joints popped up over the years in L.A. ( any Angeleno remember Burger that ate L.A.?) but this one was got more notice
than most. Short Order is from Nancy Silverton (of Campanile,
La Brea Bakery, and Pizzeria Mozza fame) and Amy Pressman ( a former
pastry chef at Spago). Previously if you wanted to make your
own premium burger, you would go inside the same area of the Farmer's
Market on 3rd & Fairfax to the butchers of Huntington Meats who
has a mix of prime chuck and sirloin called the 'Nancy's
Blend'. Since it's been opened, I have heard mixed reviews,
some still say Umami and Father's Office is much better. Well,
let's try it out...
Root Beer float, they use a good vanilla ice cream.....mmmmmmmmm, very
good way to start a meal....
Their fries were
excellent, you can also get it with truffle oil or sour cream &
bacon dip sauce.
The Ida's Old School
burger with cheddar cheese, pickles, lettuce, and secret
sauce. The server recommended medium rare and all the burgers were cooked perfectly.
Patty Melt, this was
really good! They use a house made pimento cheese that had a
wonderful texture and taste.
Pickled watermelon
rinds...not much watermelon flavor but wasn't overly sweet and went well
with the Mac & Cheese.
A Mac & Cheese
open faced burger. The bun that they use is from Short Cake
next door and owned by them. It's light and one of the best
parts of the burger. It may look messy but I would definitely
order it again.
Service was
mediocore and the outdoor seating got really windy as they faced the
south side of the 3rd & Fairfax complex. Overall I
would give the burgers a thumbs up, especially if you are a fan of Patty
Melts. They had a shake on their menu that I wanted to sample
so I might have to go back and order one. Haven't tried their
bakery as Bob's Donuts is still the best place to get a sweet treat if
you are at the L.A. farmer's Market.
