some at least had better seals against moisture and dust. I had this very good book ( alas , it was loaned to a friend who misplaced it some 8 years ago ) which details these military versions. Leica- A History Illustrating every Model and accessory . There is a revised and updated version.Author is Paul Henry Van Hasbroeck.

Current Leica M's are either finished in Chrome or Black matt paint unless you opt for the expensive made to your specification option ( Ala Carte ) .The old Leicas like the one shown is finished in gloss black enamel paint which when worn shows the brass underneath ( much like the craved for Patina on old black gloss dial Vintage Rolex with gilt dials )

it was limited to 460 pcs. in military version, and totally 505 pcs including civilian version which doesn't have the military serial no. and contract no. It was produced by Ernst Leitz Canada (Leica Canada factory)

I have still not witched to digital photography myself. Only for snapshots, I use a Leica D-Lux 5 and a V-Lux 20. These are rebranded Panasonics, I know, and paying a lot more just to have the Leica label is silly, I know. However, since a local merchantm...
