I love fine threads but care less how it’s put together now

Very interesting topic you have here and certainly it resonates with me.
I’m embarrassed to say how many Kiton suits and sports jackets I have in the closets, but since March 11th I’ve worn a suit twice. I’ve been wearing a lot of sweatpants and earphones since then. I’ve had two safe distance but in person meetings (not virtual). The first meeting I put on a suit and Stefano Ricci tie. My bespoke Kiton dress shoes I wore all that day made my feet hurt. I had grown so accustomed to wearing sneakers that even bespoke dress shoes were uncomfortable. My second in person meeting I wore a suit, a polo and Berluti sneakers. I was like to heck with it I’m offering my services and a tie or dress shoes isn’t going to make a difference.
So peacocking? I don’t know. I do know I always tried to dress understated in suit fabrics and tie colours. Enough that in a business meeting I was well dressed, but after I left the clients would forget exactly what I wore. I may be even more particular about the clothes than the watches. It’s like fine Bordeaux or Burgundy in that once you get a taste for it it’s hard to go back. Kiton and Ricci (ties) formal and Cucinelli and Loro Piana casual are my poisons.
So after the pandemic I will go back to dressing nicely, but I think the tie and dress shoes will go on far less often.
My two cents
