I grow a few orchids. Much like watch collecting and tattoos.....betcha can't get just one.
We started with one as a gift. A Phalaenopsis which stayed bloomed for 4 months. So we bought another one, and another one, and another one..........sound familiar???
Now we have around 50 or so. Many different varieties. The trick is to get them to bloom again. Some are incredibly fragrant and others are not at all. But they all make a variety of beautiful flowers and some flowers last a few weeks and others a few months. But they are all incredibly beautiful.
These ones are all Phalaenopsis. The last picture is a place in Santa Barbara California and commercial operation (obviously) that supples a lot of stores. These type of orchids are great for gift giving because unlike a bouquet of flowers that people often give, these orchids can last blooming up to almost 6 months. And if you take care of it, it can bloom again every year.
Santa Barbara and San Diego have a lot of commercial operation that supply the country and the world, I guess due to it's climate.
These are a few other varieties we grow.....
Here's a funny picture of our first orchid and our bird when we moved back down to LA. The movers won't move plants so I rented a U-Haul to move our other plants and the motorcycle...and Malika, the African Gray.
I perched her on top of a cooler so she could see the road and she had a great time as co-pilot and loved dancing to the tunes.
