I’m Dutch grew up in the Netherlands.
Did the Dutch Air Force Academy, graduates with high honors
After flying in the Netherlands for 6 years transferred to the US Airforce became instructor pilot test pilot etc and went to college at night picked up an MBA
Went back to Europe, moved into banking for 10 years but left in 2006 coz just wasn’t my thing
Went to DUBAI
I had started a company in Dubai with nothing else but an idea which I thought was brilliant but nobody (except my wife) agreed
Year and a half ago a global leader in this industry knocked on the door and bought it lock stock and barrel
Only 4 years ago I started to “get into” watches and the sale of my firm has allowed me to built a small collection.
My wife and both kids and my daughter in law got into watches as well (which didn’t make the hobby any cheaper haha)
But it gives all of us something unique: ie my son and daughter in law were visiting Italy and sent a selfie of them in front of and inside the local Vacheron boutique (our family’s most favorite brand)
We only buy watches when there is something to celebrate and each watch has a special memory to it. Hence I don’t think we will ever sell a watch
Two years ago I discovered this forum and the more I learned about it the more I started to appreciate and love this close community of like minded people
One of the very best features of this forum (at least in my view) is the fact that we don’t speak about money.
When a member posts a thread concerning his true holy grail or his favorite watch, it doesn’t matter one iota if its a $500 or $500,000 watch, it’s his enthusiasm that counts.
Add to it that our moderators in a subtle yet non-negotiable manner prevent inappropriate behavior or language and the forum becomes very very good
But the best of all: the forum helped me to quit smoking after 40 years of puffing away and for almost 6 months now I haven’t touched a cigarette
That’s mind blowing
So There you have it: 40 years of work, career and how I became a collector and forum member in a nutshell haha
Ps hope this wasn’t inappropriate but I’ll let Nicolas be judge of that

And there have been several very tense and exciting games. As for the controversy-the whole U.S. is blowing up pro or con for what happened yesterday. Surprisingly (in my mind) most people registering in seem to be quite critical of the players' celebrati...

An estimated 1,120 Million (1.1 Billion) people world-wide watched the 2018 Men's World Cup Final. An estimated 27 Million people world-wide watched the 2015 Women's World Cup Final. I think that's a fair assessment of the relative global interest in the ...
I didn’t say they were on the same level.

Physically, and with universally much less resources, it is not the same. But for excitement, and competitiveness, it’s as good.

I’m Dutch and for once tried to be modest by not posting in favor of our team haha
You should be bragging.

They were terrific. A little unlucky that they did not score more.
Thanks

Well it took 92 minutes but they pulled it off What’s more remarkable is that since this team started to show their potential, ladies soccer has taken an incredible increase in popularity back home At least according to what I hear from back home Out here...

I didn’t see the USA game yesterday

But thank you for your last comment. As a fellow American, I have always thought that many of our national sports stars and teams could benefit from learning to both win and lose with greater dignity and class. In our country there is so much focus on the...
