Circumnavigation of Mission Bay (West Side Story)
Today we didn't have the energy to beat the heat while walking so I set myself a new challenge: Fire up my timer (stopwatch), and every 5 minutes, take a picture out the window. We soon adjusted that to just 3 minutes, then rapidly abandoned the idea of timing the photos. I just took what pics I could grab from the moving car (Mrs C was driving).
Almost immediately I regretted coming in the quiet and ecological Chevy Volt and wished we had come in the Ridgeline. The road surfaces are ATROCIOUS. Don't bring the Lambo! I got beat up and a headache, because I was looking at the scenery and not the impending bumps.
For convenience we rotated in a clockwise direction, so I was against the water's edge most often. The sun was bright, the marine layer was offshore, the temperature 80 F, and humidity 55%. Grab a cold drink and let's go, shall we? We start at the first sighting of the San Diego River:

The first person we saw was this worker trimming underneath a coral tree. There about a hundred or more in Mission Bay; I hope he has more than a set of hand loppers.

Over the next bridge towards South Mission Beach.
Here's a view looking north towards Pacific Beach and La Jolla.

We turned down the alley to avoid all the traffic. It was a mixed blessing because we couldn't exceed 10 mph due to the ruts, holes and bumps.

A glance to my right revealed the bay, just a few steps away.

We turned towards the yacht club and saw all these birds hanging out at the water's edge. Wish I was there!

Back towards the main road we have to cross the bike path. Bikes, skaters and pedestrians have a stop. But they never seem to care. Cars have a stop and better do it.

This looked like a protest / feud damage - car on center divide, roof smashed in, windshield blown out. Speed limit here signed at 30 mph.

A carefree gal striding past the sanctuary, ignoring the smashed car, tow trucks and police.
We have now arrived at the Northernmost part of the bay and will turn right East and carry on in part 2.
