More Sunrise, More Cold Air, More Elevation, More Sights Seen, Part 1

Mrs C slept like a baby while I tip-toed out of the house slightly after 6 am. I had a half-hour to find a different perspective from yesterday. We were at the waterline looking east, and if I glanced over my shoulder to the West I noticed the houses on the hill would see the sunrise slightly earlier. I headed for that hill and those houses.

The time went quickly as I drove then walked to find the best view.

There are lots of things to see in the early dawn that don't draw attention to themselves in bright sunlight.

With such a fabulous view it's no wonder some of the houses resemble castles.

But (directly across the street) there are also regular homes dating back many years when the desire and money for a castle weren't so available.

I see a tug-towing a large-barge. Just behind it you can see our large hangars on North Island which are almost 100 years old, and behind those you see 68.

That's one of the largest warships in the world, the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier NIMITZ, now a whopping 50 years in active duty and scheduled to be decommissioned in 2027.  It's 1092 feet in length, with top speed 36 knots, and range "25 years".

Jockeying for position and best angle for the sunrise, I change position by a couple blocks and shoot through a private driveway... this is away from downtown looking almost South

I move again and find an angle that lets me see Southwest, out the channel entrance, with its steady flow of ships coming and going as the visibility increases.

The houses are bracing for the blast of sunlight soon to sweep over them.

Time seems to have stopped now.

I wait impatiently in the chilly air....
