It isn't a fit day out for man nor beast!

But it's ok for women and plants and sea birds, luckily, because the local garden club is having their big sale this morning and my wife is deeply involved in the event.

Held in the Portuguese Community Hall, this sale raises money for their year's activities, and gives lots of the members a chance to show their creativity AND get some plants off their property OR buy some more. We went over early to finish setting up and pricing the contributions.

You can buy plants that are already happy in our particular micro-climate, already potted and blooming, at prices lower than the nursery.

There are also lots of trinkets that gardeners seem to like sprinkling around their yards.

Personally, I prefer manly garden gnomes and trolls welded up from old wrenches and so forth...

The most interesting part of today's show, in my opinion, is the arrangements assembled by the creative gardners equipped with micro-tools and steady hands worthy of watchmaker's bench (dental assistant, brain surgeon, etc.)

Soup tureen-sized coffee cup was the highest-priced item in the hall. Bravo! to the person who assembled it without breaking all the delicate plants.

Garden Nymph, bird & turtle  - I kind of liked this one but I am smart enough not to ask my wife to buy it for our garden.

If you have followed any of our morning walk reports, you won't be surprised by the plant arrangement I decided to bring home... Yes, the pelican won me over.

We got home just in time though I doubt Mr Pelican was bothered by the weatherman's forecast of 1.5 inches of rain hammering down.

I hope some people make it to the sale or I'll be hauling tons of plants back ... or NOT

The watch!
