Up Rose Creek with only a Credor
Nov 26, 2020,09:36 AM
We left home as the sun was rising over downtown.
and made it to our starting point just before 7 am. This is a very old Credor mechanical, hand-wind, certified by Swiss, chronometer.
The start of the walk seemed boring, but we didn't know the best place to access the creek-side trail
The boat & RV storage yard flying squirrel brightened up my mood
and we soon came to the bridge over Rose Creek, which feeds into the bay
Bay view downstream, south. If this looks familiar to you, it's because we were here awhile ago in "Flightmaster on Foot"
On that day we walked down to the bay; today we walk up towards La Jolla.
Creek view upstream, north; our destination.
The foliage was lush, and once again we were confused by flowering and fruiting plants as winter is coming on in most parts of the Northern Hemisphere. This is a pepper tree.
Eucalyptus blossoms
Credor!
I didn't expect birds where we were headed, but there were plenty around
Including this perfectly-camouflaged hawk which we had heard but not seen in the eucalyptus tree
and below him this sentinel standing on the rocks
There was plenty of interesting plant life too
We brought home some wild licorice for tea
The creek finally turned into a concrete channel, and further up looked like a garbage dump
Piles of clothing and a walker (Zimmer frame) signaled that this was a good place to turn around
We abandoned the creek and took to the streets of Pacific Beach
Dualtone!
I haven't been in there since they welded up a nice muffler system for my Lotus Elan... that must have been 1995?
We walked past this bank building - from a time when Banks were businesses you trusted; when a bank building was more than a wall with an automatic teller machine, or an app!
Chase Bank intends to demolish the Home Savings and Loan bank, an iconic New Formalist style building from 1977, before it turns 45 years old. Chase is playing beat-the-clock to avoid a threshold for historic review. The building is notable for exterior mosaics by a group of well-known local artists. At least Chase plans to relocate the mosaics elsewhere in the Pacific Beach community. The building itself is a prominent and high-quality architectural landmark, with a seal sculpture in the front plaza. Eight exterior mosaics include six of relevant historical figures and two San Diego scenes. Inside the branch is a large mural depicting a stunning, stylized California landscape. It is an excellent example of the New Formalist style, and is the only Home Savings and Loan building remaining within city limitss. Features include the prominent and repeated masonry arches, use of art throughout, and warm tones of terrazzo tile. Though modern, this building follows centuries of traditional bank architecture, embellished by art and facing the street to convey institutional stability and importance.
I like the symmetry evident in my photo.
We kept walking
This Camaro looks like fun!
More reminders that we are on the cusp of a tropical climate
An angry cormorant.
We stood under the bridge watching some birds and noticing the ripples, reflections and triangles in the darkened space
Of 10 pigeons, only this guy had a roost of his own, 2 inches higher than the rest. King of the Underpass

Happy Thanksgiving -- I can see why settlers settled on Turkey for dinner, rather than stork (no drumsticks).
