Unfortunately, my experience with warranty repairs from different brands is that they typically don’t share details of the work done/what was wrong with the timepiece.  Very opaque process; they simply fix the issue, return the watch, and call it good.  One notable exception is the Richemont brands that document the repair taken, but again, no details on what was wrong initially.  


I’ve had two personal repairs sent to the Seiko US service center through a GS AD.  One was a 90s Seiko diver and a modern Grand Seiko.  The GS was sent to Japan for estimating and subsequent repair. I believe the GMT complication and zaratsu refinishing required it being sent back home. It took 12 weeks total, which is what they initially quoted me.  The diver was about 4 weeks.  These were full service, non-warranty repairs.  Both experiences were long, but ended up being fine and on par with what I’ve seen from other manufactures.  It’s too bad that you experienced such a delay and mix-up on Seiko’s part for what should have been a straight-forward repair.
