Grand Seiko recently announced the Ginza limited edition model for 2023.  It expands on last year's model's (SBGH297) theme of the Ginza street layout by adding an additional square motif reminiscent of the windows of modern buildings.

It uses the 9S85 high-beat movement and uses the 62GS-style case in stainless steel.

It is scheduled to be released on July 15th and there will be 400 pieces made.  It is available from a selection of Grand Seiko ADs in Ginza, but interestingly at least one of the stores, Wako, is holding a lottery to determine allocations.  I am unsure if all the retailers are using lotteries, but it is interesting to see Grand Seiko using this mechanism for allocating limited editions that are expected to be high in demand.

I did get a chance to get hands-on with a dummy exhibition model, and I really liked what I saw.

Straight-on shot shows that the square motif is the dominant visual element with the Ginza street pattern slightly visible in the background

From this angle, you can see that the play of light on the squares follows a diagonal pattern across the dial

When the light hits the dial just right, the street map reflects the light and comes to the forefront
