Samurai gets the run down
I don't mean to imply that my Seiko Samurai ran down on our walk - that wouldn't say much for my energy levels or his, would it? But if you scroll down a bit you will see what I mean.
Today we walked near Sea World, the marine park which has taken lots of flak recently, but for decades has also been respected for its conservation, research and rehabilitation of marine animals. I haven't been in the park for years because admission fee is now higher than the price of a Swatch.
We walked around to the NW, away from the park itself
and towards the
"Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute (HSWRI) is a non-profit scientific research organization committed to conserving and renewing marine life to ensure a healthier planet. Our expert team develops innovative scientific solutions to challenges threatening ocean health and marine life. The Institute began in 1963 when Milton Shedd, one of the founders of SeaWorld, recognized the importance of developing a non-profit research foundation with the vision “to return to the sea some measure of the benefits derived from it.”
I guess this is for their research...

As we circled this large tree in the parking lot my wife pointed out that the Hubbs building used to be a fish restaurant on the water's edge.
"Don't you remember?" she said (in that special wife voice, knowing full well hubby has no clue what she is talking about) "We went there for dinner with your parents and grandparents after your college graduation!"
OK, maybe so. It was quite a long time ago, back in the early Seventies.

A sharp and bright sun provided the perfect angle for photographer to capture self reflected on the bay, while simulanteously getting a wrist scan.

A quartet of lazy old guys paddled by at about 2 mph, just my speed. As nice as a round of golf I suppose for unwinding and getting a touch of exercise.

And then we saw the runners again, with their coach. My wife told me a lot about her high school and college track coaching days:
- the coach has to get there first (her teams ran on this exact field)
- the coach walks the course with distance wheel and put cones on the corners
- the coach is always standing around and getting cold, so wears sweats while the runners are in shorts
- the coach always seems to be looking the wrong direction but in this case he had 14 runners and they were spread out in groups of 2-3
These two guys were much faster than the other 5 runners on the boy's team. I was amazed that I got them all 4 feet in the air on this shot.

Happily the girls team was practicing too, on roughly the same course. See them coming around the corner?
They tried to ignore each other -- but I noticed the boys and girls both ran a bit harder when the others were in sight. Clever coaches!

So that's the run down on today's walk by the bay.
Cheers,
Cazalea
