Quite friendly. Not only did we have a bench to read and sit upon, there was a water fountain, a Little Lending Library, and congenial people (not too many of them). Plus a safe parking space virtually on the trail.






Some cryptic words appear on this sign, from Julian of Norwich, a medieval mystic and saint in England; one of the first woman authors in the English language. I have been to the cell and church where she lived, partially because it's within a few miles of the Lotus Factory.  Regrettably, I can't approve of the manner in which the maker of the sign hyphenated the word manne-r.



My wife commented that she'd never seen a pink hibiscus flower, and wondered if it was a rare specimen ...

The busy bee had no time for such ponderings.



Now we've seen two. So it can't be THAT rare.

The walking path crossed between residential and semi-commercial properties, like a church and this dementia care home. My mother lived here for the last 4-5 years of her life, and we were very glad for their assistance. She loved living in this setting. Despite all the times I came to visit her, we never walked the path together... other things were always more pressing.



Just off the path there was this redwood home, nestled in the trees and secluded from the "real world" except for the stream of walkers and cyclists.



We took a fork uphill and left the cycle path behind. At my age, and with my general state of fitness, I was soon regretting my choice. We climbed slowly.



There were a few ups and downs and Mrs C left me behind. Of course, she's a bit younger than I...



I was trying to get a panorama photo for this report, and here's what I came up with -- about 10,000 pixels wide and 1800 high in the original size. We are just below some homes that enjoy this view every day.



After I caught my breath we headed down an even steeper path than the one we took up the hill.



No worry if we slip and fall, the cactus will stop us from rolling too far...



We came to a wide spot in the path and I took over a kid's swing for a moment to cool off in the shade. Note the fine watch.

Thankfully, the car soon appeared in the distance. We had a drink of water from the fountain, collapsed into the bucket seats, 



and headed home for a nap. 

Along the way a older gent pulled alongside us at a stoplight and praised the car. He then told us he had owned the Lotus import-distributorship in South Africa. I asked if he’d gone broke ... he gave a big laugh and said no, luckily he’d sold it in time. 😉
