The new Seiko SPB501, released as a special edition in June of this year, is extremely attractive, has a high value proposition and will satisfy my new obsession with green (for now) π 40 mm case size.
Initial impressions are very strong: Starting with the star of the show, the emerald dial and bezel, which look matte in low lighting situations. In direct sunlight, the bezel stays a matte emerald, but the sun burst dial pops revealing not only a deeper, darker green tone, but also waves on the surface of the ocean π The rectangular dial indices are perfectly symmetrical and the the handset gives you that cool retro vibe.
Next up the case: Measuring 40 x 46.4 x 13 mm, the proportions work very well for my 7 inch wrist. Interestingly, Iβd say this wears closer in size to my 39 mm BB58 than say a 40 mm Sub, for example. The case shape is killer. In true vintage skin diver fashion, itβs a nod to the original Seiko MAS, from the 60βs. Check out the polished beveled edge, squared off lugs, no crown guard, cool wave engraving on solid case back and the way the lugs perfectly curve to hug the wearers wrist. For me, this is a beautiful case and it doesnβt get much better than this.
Seiko updated their bracelet with this new model; Itβs solid and sturdy. Comfortable. You get micro adjust on the fly (in a few different positions), a solid milled deployant and a clam shell safety part with smooth twin tigger release.
This is my first Seiko. So far, this piece punches WAY above its weight. I have yet to find a better value at this price point. Super happy with my new Seiko diver! This could be the ultimate cool summer watch π Thanks for stopping by Friends! π»
