Ah, I get it now…I was confused because the new Laurel has Seiko on the dial, but the original did not.
So, the Laurel is Seiko’s first wrist watch, while the SPB441 came afterwards as the first wristwatch with Seiko written on dial. And of course other design differences you highlight. Thanks for the explanation🙏🏽.

The Pogue, and the Tokyo 1964 Olympics reissues were a lot more problematic in my opinion. Sometimes I have the feeling that they are cutting corners in a very un-Japanese fashion.
Yes, 35 x 12.3 mm puts it definitely on the thick side.
