Great write up. Ah, the Daytona, you can just about hear the shrieking of the tires and the smell of the rubber! I am also thinking about letting go of some subs and getting a Dayto....I am going through a strange phase at the moment. The subs seem a litt... 

... I agree that to wear the Daytona brings some exciting images to our mind! Fast colorful cars, nice girls, and the image of Mr. Cool Paul Newman wearing one during an old car race. Now, Submariners... Subs have been my only love for more than 40 years!... 

I love these early Daytonas, the dial with straight upper "Daytona" is my favourite !

And you said it all right, never say never.. And I have to say, vintage Daytonas really do have a special charm of its own Wether it's the pump pusher or the newer screw down pusher I really like this example of yours, especially it came from the first ow...
