This seems to be a night when people love to invest on watches...

Just check the Collector's Market. It is easy. You will notice that Rolexes made of gold are loosing their value in general Big Time.

Furthermore, in my opinion having a diving watch made of gold is big stupidity. Having a diving watch made of Platinum, is even more stupid... I happen to have a TTP in Platinum so I am very stupid. I also had a Fifty Fathoms in RG so I was very very stupid. But I sold it and now I am just very stupid.

I am now speaking as a diver. A dive watch made of gold or platinum is not very clever from diving perspective. And if you are not diving, why to buy a diving watch? A normal watch which is WR to 10 ATM is water resistant for all kind of swimming or snorkeling. So if you like golden watches and you like Rolexes, they have many nice watches which are WR to 100 meters.

How do you think the WG Submariner will hold its value in the long run i.e. how much am I looking to loose on this purchase e.i. does it hold its value any better than the other watches in the rolex lineup?

3-4% in a year ( due to price increase by manufacture) but it may lose value indefinitely, It's your call, Better invest in real gold IMO Best Eddy

Buy the one you like. The day you sell it you will have the answer. It is all relative. Maybe if you bought a good discount you will lose less. As an investment you buy it put it in a vault they take it out and sell 25 years later. There are other choices...
