Sensibilities Change….

Over time, I became very interested in Patek Philippe. My taste in watches went from the utilitarian “Tool Watch” nature of the Rolex GMT to the “Dress Watch” nature of Patek Philippe. Certainly, I still own my GMT , but my “Daily Wearer”, ( I hesitate to say “Daily Beater” is a Patek Philippe. I appreciate different watches but my favorite is Patek.

My first self-purchased watch is a Rolex GMT . I bought it brand new from an AD in Southern California in November of 1986. $1,250 “out the door”. I still have it, still love it, though I don’t wear it much. ...

I wear it very carefully , but I wear it all the time. Great watch and nobody pays any attention to it.. my Rolex GMT gets noticed and is commented on every time I wear it.

I don't have my first watch

... but remember well the black Caravelle that my Dad bought for me when I was in grade school. The first watch I remember buying for myself was a Hamilton Khaki from LL Bean. Regardless, I love your 16600 (assuming that's what it is). I have one too and ...

I do, and it will look familiar to you.

Also purchased on “lay away” over several months. Everyone thought I was crazy, except my mother. LOL Here it is. I’ve not worn it this year, this picture is from last year. For me, when I think about a watch this is what I think about. ...

That is an amazing watch, and an equally remarkable story!

The first watch I bought myself was back in 2005, and which I ended up selling a year later. I wish I had your taste earlier in my journey!

😉 What was it ?

Yes, you are right, and I agree it is a great brand. :))

Just that particular model was bought in haste and which I regretted soon after.

Yes I have

Elitist choice? Not really. It was just what I genuinely loved.

I think a more recognizable brand may have been an elitist choice, perhaps...

Great thread, and a great Rolex.

I still own (and put new batteries whenever necessary) on the quartz tag heuer aquaracer which I bought for myself to celebrate my medical school graduation, in 2009. I’ll try to dig up a picture. I’d pined after that watch for 5 long years

Can’t wait 👍 !

I remember my first Rolex. Wanted and waited 20 years to afford one. Bought it on a credit card. Couldn’t afford cash. Never took it off the first year . 20 years later I amassed a nice collection of higher end watches, so I gave it to my godson, nephew, ...

So sad story…

 By: Lfptk : July 11th, 2022-13:43

Too bad.

That’s one of the very strong pro‘s of Rolex. Their design language lasts for decades. I still own my first watch. A Seiko (partly gold plated) chrono moonphase with a quartz movement. I got it from my father when I was 18 and had to go to the military. T...
