Rolex

The last time I saw this watch in the metal was back in 2017 when it was just launched. I recalled I didn’t find it very attractive as I find the watch abit too thick and chunky as a dress watch. I recently saw it on display at my local AD and I find the ...  

But it was not available in Sydney, and so I passed on it. Recalled calling up every single AD to ask if they had one. Many months after I saw one sitting in the store and asked to see it (wallet empty). It was a painful moment.

Nowadays there appears to be a long queue for it, at least according to my local ADs.

I did see one unusual version, the time only Cellini, but studded with diamonds, at the AD at that time. It is not on the catalogue.

It is quite a unique piece in many aspects. The case sides are curved, like a milgauss case, almost pebble-like. The fluting of the bezel and also the caseback is a nice feature too. And not to mention, the moonphase is one of the more beautiful moons out... 

I would second your opinion if the dial would - as most dials do - have a second/minute track on the outside rim. However, here is the calendar, and the tip of the second hand would only add a confusing element to it. Therefore, the minute/second track ha... 

The seconds hand was thought of properly, and hence the minute track on the inner circle.

I think it's a beautiful and distinctive piece, although I also believe it has been unfairly slighted out there - perhaps because it's misunderstood, I wonder? For example, some people will say it's "un-Rolex", seemingly claiming that Rolex should stick t... 

I almost pulled the trigger on one a few years ago. It wears very well and has a very nice presence on the wrist.

Near perfect dial and an extremely elegant case. A perceived negative is the solid case back and decent, but not refined movement. But that is not what Rolex is. They make industrial calibres that really work and great, comfortable cares. And with the moo... 

I’d put it on my grail list if the case was between 36 and 38mm (I know I know, I’m quibbling again) and in white metal.

I can imagine many will want one!
