Hi,
I bought this watch a few years ago and don't get much wear out of it due to its size, which is a tad small for me.
I was told it is a DJ from 1959. The dial appears to be charcoal or a very dark brown. The dial is somewhat pie-pan shaped, which someone told me would likely indicate this is a Ref. 1600. It is in stainless and rose gold. The bracelet is very stretched.
I haven't taken the bracelet off but am hopeful someone can tell me something about the age of the watch, does the dial look original, etc.?
Also, I have seen onyx or lapis dials with no hour markers that I find very attractive. I think it is the minimalist aspect of these dials that intrigue me. Would it be possible to swap such a dial onto this one? I know a purist would scold me for wanting to change the watch, but the watch is not that valuable and I have no sentimental attachment to it. I imagine it would be more than difficult to find an original dial as I believe whatever markings are on these two variations would be in yellow gold, while my watch (and matching dial) are stainless and rose gold. Perhaps I could have a decent re-finisher customize my dial to appear like the onyx/no hour marker one?
Finally, I heard that Jubilee bracelets can be tightened either by putting in new pins, or taking it apart and putting it back together, etc. Is this possible? If so, what would or should the cost be? How can I source someone to do the dial and bracelet refinishing /restoration work?
Is it permissible to recommend vendors in response to posts? If not, and anyone can make recommendations, could you please PM the information to me?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have.
Best,
Robert
