Of course there's always the option of going local and having a watchmaker service the watch and keep the original movement. In my experience that's cheaper and faster than sending it in most of the time. Ok don't know if I view the movement as being the soul of the watch.. But I can see how others might...

I think if for example one of my GSs were to go into service and for the same cost, GS were to offer to replace the movement for an upgrade (say from 3 day PR to 5 day PR, I'd be pretty happy). At the same time, I've been on this and various forums for a long time, and I've read many stories about watches going in for routine service and coming back in worse shape than they went out - only then needing to be resent, so if the process of swapping out movements reduces the risk of a bad service experience, I think I'm also down for that.
