Rolex

I think it’s more comfortable than my explorer..

I’ve had my exp39 and sd43 for at least 5 years so I’ve worn them long enough to have a bit of insight as to wearability.

I’ve done all day photography with my sd43 although i have yet to wear the exp39 under such circumstances. But i have worn it all day puttering around my condo, watching tv, etc smile

Why the sd43 is more comfortable based on extended wearing experience:

1) it will come as to no surprise but the glide lock makes it so especially where balancing watch heads are concerned. The easy link in general is a crapshoot for me. If it weren’t for the exp39 being thin and light, it could potentially be annoying as the sharp edges of the lugs can sometimes dig in. Sure i could add or take off a link but the fit isn’t quite 100% either way. Add one link and it’s too loose.. offset it with the easylink and it’s too tight. Take out one link and let the easylink pick up the slack and it’s still too tight. With the glide lock.. perfection every time. Having said that, i’m not sure a glide lock will solve the sharp lugs issue with the exp39 which brings me to reason #2..

2) this is where the bulging case back comes into play. Maybe i’m just lucky but the case back somehow nestles on my wrist just enough that it doesn’t stick out but holds the head in place AND pushes the lugs just high enough that it doesn’t dig into my skin. Which makes me now wonder if the sub41, as thin and as comfortable as it is but with a flatter case back, would actually dig into my skin even with the glide lock.

I guess that’s the downside of an unpolished Rolex case. The lugs can dig in depending on how it wears.

Anyway, the exp39 is still very much a comfortable watch due to size, weight and case height. But over a long period of ownership, one tends to notice the little things.

Wish it had an alum bezel but ceramic has its moments..

It seems to levitate here but it only does that at certain angles. Most times, it’s almost flat making it look more like it has a 14mm case height rather than 15mm. Note how the sharp edge of the lug is far from the skin..
