I need some purchasing advice from the Rolex guru's for the Mrs.

Hello all - I'm by no means a Rolex aficionado, so I'm turning to you, dear Rolex Guru's, for a little purchasing advice.

My wife has a mile-marker birthday coming up, and is thinking about purchasing a new watch to help celebrate the occasion. She's already decided on a few other higher-priced items to celebrate, so we're limiting her watch purchase price to somewhere around the $3,000.00-$4,000.00 USD range (more or less). Because of that price limitation, she's expressed an interest in exploring vintage Rolex, as most (if not all) modern Rolex fall outside of that price range.

She's more focused on the fashion aspect of the watch than any technical novelties, so the most important aspect to her ultimately is looks. She's looking for a slightly larger watch case size, as is the current trend for women, which does complicate things a little given the smaller size of the vintage watch world. My guess is she's looking for something around a 40 mm case size, ideally, though there is of course flexibility there. Given the price limit we've set, I expect the only option available will be steel, though she likes the steel and gold look.

I realize this is an incredibly broad question to ask, but what references/years might the Rolex guru's among us suggest would meet her requirements?

Thanks in advance.

I realize that this is on the lower price side for Rolex, but I'm hoping it is still doable. She really doesn't want to spend a whole lot, and is fairly focused on Rolex as the brand of choice for her. Thanks again.

A vintage Air-King or Mens DateJust

would be very nice. I would think with a little bit of searching a nice one could be found within your price range. I am personally looking for a vintage Air-King and when the right one comes around I'll know it. Enjoy your search.

Vintage Air King.... Is the way to go, or a more recent one.

Something lie that, for example: Ref 14000. Credit picture Jacek. From the 2000's. 34 mm but they wear much bigger. Or Ref 5500, from the 60's or 70's. Ref picture unknown... Best, Nicolas ...

Yes, it is the best size for a woman, ........ but she wants 40mm. Here the Airking of my -mi vida - mi todo - mi amor ;))

For Airking you need to change the clasp for a shorter one, specially for woman. They only have this short clasp for the 19mm bracelet. Best Walter ...

Here the short clasp!

I tend to agree with Nicolas on a Vintage Rolex Air king. In addition you can dress the watch for every occasion.

You can buy colorful nato straps or vintage leather or even colorful leather. It will make the Air King a queen for every occasion. ...
