Agree. I like platinum for more dressy pieces, say a Day Date, a Calatrava, or even a Nautilus...
but steel is so much more appropriate for a tool watch and I also prefer the look of both the black and the white ceramic Daytona.
It seems like OP still needs to remove some stickers from his platinum one...
I hear now these are hard to get and wait could be longer and requires HQ approvals and all...
I personally like it a lot and feel that one day it would be the most sort after modern Daytona . Just need an endorsement like the Green and the blue Daytona got from John Meyer and this would be history too... ...
It may be rare and expensive...
but I'm not sure it's important at all...only a variation on a theme.
I do think it’s an important watch in the sense that it’s the first and only platinum sports/professional watch Rolex has ever made (I think)
At least the only one that has been serially produced and not special ordered. Maybe someone can confirm?
When they made it out of platinum...
and put diamonds on the dials it went from a tool watch to a rich man's bauble. Don't get me wrong, it's very pretty, but it's sort of frivolous imho.
It’s not that I dislike the watch...
if I had huge $ I might even buy one and put it in a fifty-watch rotation. But the diamonds take it out of the tool watch category as far as I’m concerned...but that might just be me.
