Submariner 116610 LN

Aug 05, 2012,06:29 AM

...I liked it so much that I bought it, after years of reluctance to get a Sub (primarily due to the clasp design used on its predecessors) and prior ownership of, among others, 2 Omega Seamasters, 2 Omega Planet Oceans, 1 G.O. Sport Evolution Chronograph, 1 UTS 1000m v2 GMT an Ebel and a Ball Hydrocarbon.

It's the final terminus in my decades-long search for the perfect classic desk diver.

Cheers
DB Darien

Which modern Rolex...

You guys think is best out there... There are many choices of Rolex watches offered - even many variant of submariner, different color of explorers and daytonas... But which one is your favorite and why? Best, Sam

OK....for me

Rasta Milgauss or Explorer 1. The Rasta because it is so quirky and fun, the Explorer 1 because it is just bullet-proof cool. If i could borrow a black-out Explorer 1, that would be my choice!

Both are such great pieces...

May I know more about the blackout Explorer 1? I've heard about it yet haven't heard details about the piece Best, Sam

Here's one!

I have to say the new Submariner..!! You might find one or two pics in my gallery....I love the new case, bezel, and the bracelet with new glide lock clasp which is a thing of beauty in itself :) Obviously it's down to what you want it for and I also have...

Aha the new Submariner...

I think a must have watch for everyone Thanks Darien Sam

Like Baron, I would choose the Rasta Milgauss, OR

 By: amanico : August 5th, 2012-06:52
The Yachtmaster. I think the best choice is a different choice. Too many Subs or Dayto ( whch is also true for the Vintage, though! ). Yes, try to be different, try the Rasta Milgauss, or the Yachtmaster! You can't go wrong with any of these two. Best, Ni...

OR... come on do not be shy, we all know you're in love with

That black dial new Explorer II. and amongst your whys... it is simply a top everyday wear specially when life starts meeting with age... ;-)

Nooo. ;)

Those 2 would be...

Nice choice for you as they're more like an evolution to their predecessor... So the Yachtmaster comes with a platinum / ss bracelet? Sam

Suggest the GMTII Ceramic or ref 116710LN.

If you are looking to get one, Sam. I just like the overall look of it and it's ease of function and practical side of it. It looks solid and nice rendition of the GMT, totally with modern approach and new materials. And the little green GMT hand over the...

That piece...

 By: i_am_Sam : August 13th, 2012-00:30
Certainly fits the criteria for an everyday wear... It got the look of the classic submariner, yet it has a useful GMT function on it... I really like the color... And yes I have the same complain as you... I don't like the polished bracelet on the modern...

I hope I will...

Green crystal Milgauss. Tried one on recently at a Rolex boutique and its been hard to get out of my head. After that, the new Explorer. Even with the short minute hand, a great watch and a perfect case size.

That's a nice choice...

Thank you Sam

I can sense a new direction ;)

 By: TdotBean : August 5th, 2012-19:37
I concur with the choice of Milgauss. GV or white dial would be a good choice regardless. Another favorite of mine is those racing dial from the WG Daytona. It would be perfect if we can get the SS model and purchase these dial separately and swap them :D...

Which direction you are sensing Tyler???

 By: i_am_Sam : August 13th, 2012-00:33
:)) It is gonna be towards that direction only I still don't know if I want to dive in to the world of vintage Rolexes.. The modern doesn't have such charm BUT they're a perfect tool watch... Very solid I've always been a fan of the racing dial WG Daytona...

Expensive? Maybe not a new direction yet. ;)

 By: TdotBean : August 13th, 2012-04:30
I thought you have your mind set for the vintage rolex, I might be wrong. As for the swapping the dial on the WG Daytona. I believe we can buy the dial are separately directly from rolex. I'm just not sure will Rolex sell them to a non WG Daytona owner. I...

Still have my mind set for it Tyler...

 By: i_am_Sam : August 13th, 2012-07:15
But at the same time also looking for some modern tool watch... I guess I have to be very patient if I want to get the right vintage Rolexes.. Because to me, it has to be a very special piece.. This will be a fun adventure I believe... I'm sure you're als...

According to my wife

My 2 recent picks are the Sub and the Explorer II

 By: PoyFR : August 8th, 2012-05:47
The white gold bleu dial sub, I could not go passed that bleu dial sub, since I own it its colour continues to amaze me. The new Explorer II, a so easy everyday watch for me, a wink to the past, another wink to the future a great time teller and finally I...

Mind sharing some shot of the blue dial sub?

 By: i_am_Sam : August 13th, 2012-00:36
I kinda like the idea of using precious metal and different color scheme .. Just that I'm not sure if I can live with such color... The new explorer2 seems to be a nice choice POY.. I'm highly considering it... Which dial did you go for? Sam

Here some links and more imo :-)

 By: PoyFR : August 13th, 2012-04:11
Submariner wg bleu dial. Although I am with it vacationing I cannot upload newer images with my IPhone. I hope you do not mind me sharing photos from my old posts at least till I return back. However I can tell you that yes it is a difficult purchase but ...

 By: Miranda : August 8th, 2012-15:16
love the case (lugs v block lugs), and its everything you want in a tool watch... over engineered, almost brutal... exactly what u need in the Himalaya... :) Best Imran

I know I will get killed....but the new EXPLORER 2....

That one I really like...

 By: i_am_Sam : August 13th, 2012-00:37
Seems that it's the only one that have a proportional lug size compared to the case and bracelet... Yes.. an overengineered watch for an every day wear... Great choice Imran Sam

That;s what my friends are telling me...

 By: i_am_Sam : August 25th, 2012-08:18
But I decided on a classic black dial instead... Maybe I'm a conventional type of person Sam
